january birthdays

so many of my friends have january birthdays. 47 of my facebook friends have birthdays in january. plus my mom...and a few others that have resisted joining facebook.

i'm not really a fan of the facebook 'happy birthday'. it seems so impersonal. and it isn't like you really remembered the birthday...you just saw it when you logged into facebook. i prefer an email. or in special cases a card. above is one of the birthday cards i sent out this month.

fingerless gloves

so my latest knitting project isn't quite finished yet (one of two gloves), but here are a few pictures.  this project is my first attempt at a few new knitting things...

1. this is my first experience with self-striping yarn.  it's really fun to knit with since you never really know exactly how the finished project is going to turn out.  

2. this is my first attempt at cabling.  it is so much easier than i thought it would be.  

3. this is my first attempt to knit with double pointed needles--also much easier than i previously anticipated.

My first baby blanket (for a friend)

Above is the baby blanket I knitted for my friend Maggie. She's having a baby at the end of July. They don't know if it's a boy or girl, so I tried to keep the colors neutral without using yellow, a color I don't like. I love the way it turned out. I also made the card. I found this really cute stamp store and bought a baby stamp. I think I'll probably use it quite a bit in the future. It makes me feel old to think about Maggie, who lived in the dorm room next to me my freshman year, having a baby. But it gives me an excuse to spend time on fun projects!
